Re: PaceCategorize

After taking more time to stew over this, +1 on Dare's comments. Modifying categories on an entry does not seem to be enough of a special case to warrant special treatment like this.

I'll maintain, however, that some form of mechanism for posting diff's to an entry (as opposed to updating the entire entry every time) would be very valuable. (e.g. rather that PUT'ing a new entry, POST a diff against the existing entry where the diff contains only the metadata modifications)

There are several problems with this Pace.

1. It only supports adding categories instead of all
CRUD operations.

2. This feature should be generic to any property of
an entry not just categories. Users should be able to
turn off comments in their entry orfix a typo in the
title using a similar lightweight mechanism.

3. The basic premise behind this Pace is that adding
more categories to an entry is a feature that users
need enough for it to be special cased in the
protocol. This is contrary to my experience using
weblog software.

PS: On (3) above I realize that Blogger doesn't have
categories so they'll need some mechanism to enable
mass editing or addition of categories whenever they
add this feature. This doesn't mean the protocol
should be hacked up to support a temporary need of
Blogger's users instead of a more generic mechanism
being provided that will actually stand the test of
time.
