I think you're straining at gnats here. The language of the spec makes it entirely clear that the client is to reproduce content that it does not intend to change, no matter where it came from. Should a dispute arise in practice about the result of some PUT transaction, it will be obvious whether the problem was due to client-sourced or server-sourced content. 2616 stands: PUT can change the state of the system. That fact does not imply that the client is solely responsible, in the APP context, for all such changes in state. -Tim
