sorry, i did not want sound negative here, i just noticed that it was not further developed. but this more or less gets back to the starting point of the discussion: if there are other criteria than just time, then it would be interesting to query for these.
the feed rank draft and the microsoft stuff are just looking at the client side representation. i was thinking about protocol-level interaction, so that i can do searching and ranking on the server side, rather than getting the ranking information as secondary information only, while still getting a primarily time-ordered feed.
for large collections, it would be essential to be able to handle things on the server side, rather than only being able to do client-side processing.
