Yeah, I know. We're already taking some liberties with the IDs
(filtering out characters we don't allow in an ID).

When I switch to ignoring the provided ID completely, the APE goes ahead
and creates three entries successfully and the test now passes.

I still think the APE's behaviour here is a little odd, but at least it
doesn't seem to be problem on our side.
