Isn't Graham asking for something distinct from this? Superceding an
entry can be handled by changing it, but /removing/ an entry from the
CMS (rather than just from the feed) can;t currently be signalled by
the server to the client in the feed - as far as I know. Obviously the
client is free to ignore this, and use a cached copy of the resource,
or whatever. But the server has made an assertion about the resource -
it's been withdrawn. Trying to fetch its permalink, I'd imagine would
return 410 Gone.

This doesn't necessarily have much use for blogs, but is more
important in publishing, and in some different uses entirely - say I
publish a feed of my latest special offers. I only list ten - because
client software can store the rest, and anyway I have a website for
the full list - I might have ten thousand current st any one time, or
even more. But when one ends, it would be useful to signal to the
clients that that offer is no longer valid.
