From a purely personal point of view, I can't help wondering
if *I* would be "invited" by the chair to be an invited participant in
this working group if it was a W3C WG. On the other hand, I have no
concern at all about being able to participate as much or as little as
I might wish if Atom is an IETF WG. I'm sure I'm not the only one who
is wondering the same...
In the IETF, the degree of my participation is determined
solely by my own inclinations and by the merits of my contributions.
This would not seem to be the case in the W3C...

In any case, I can't help wondering: If the W3C thinks that
Atom is a worthy effort, then why can't they contribute to an IETF
process? Are we being told that W3C will only "support" Atom if it is
one of their standards? Is there some "Not invented here" going on?
