common formats, at the expense of yet another registry of values to
manage, and at the expense of anyone who wants to use a different

This was the motivation for the multipart/alternative that's in the
current draft. But, is this a use-case that Atom needs to solve? The
only person I know who actually does this is Norm Walsh... oops, he has
different URIs for 'em. Nope, don't know anybody doing this. In fact,
RSS seems to have gotten along fine without this. If this can be
motivated by a use case with actual potential interested users, then
fine, otherwise I think it's a wouldn't-this-be-nice feature. -Tim
