Of course. That's probably why I find this so fascinating. I think it's wierd that the XHTML guys haven't done anything about this, but then again, it might have been discussed thoroughly on their mailing list. Client-server (not server-client) error reporting is something valuable to all types of web resources, not only Atom. Especially XML resources of course; e.g. XHTML, RDF/XML, etc.

I think someone should definitely write this up. It will be interesting to contrast with PaceServiceError.

Yea, I'll hope Henry can write this up in a Pace.

There are some differences here. One is that you're sending the error back to the URI it was retrieved from.

Yes. Which i think makes a lot of sense.

Another is that it doesn't work in the absence of an HTTP response.

What do you mean? If there's no response, there will probably me nothing to ERR about. Or are you talking about something different?

Also, I'm concerned that the definition of "error" could
creep

How and why?

When I first picked up this idea[1], I thought of making a new verb, too.
Watching people *freak out* about PUT and DELETE made me pretty skeptical it would ever happen.

I'm skeptical as well, but if the TAG likes this idea, we might get somewhere with it. Let's hope and see.
