Did you consider simply making an Atom feed of items which themselves
represent feeds? Does this have any disadvantages over the new feedset
element you've defined?

This was my first thought too - unless there was some significant functionality that could not be replicated using e.g. categories then I would be hesitant to complicate Atom's simple and elegant model. I'm yet to see a compelling reason for a new entity.
