Section 7.2 of the draft says: "Normalize the string by removing all whitespace characters from input."

So, Yes, whitespace is ignored. Simple!

Interesting.  The term "magic" is a little to cutesy for me, but maybe I'm
just getting old.

The draft, and the RFC on base64 it references, aren't specific enough
about whitespace.  Maybe I read too quickly, but the sample shows indented
lines -- is the leading whitespace ignored?  Embedded whitespace?  Where
odes it say that?

I'd propose something similar:  all whitespace is ignored when generating
the digest.  Then even more issues vanish.
