Lewis writes the excerpt below, and I have to whole-heartedly agree. At the
risk of sounding cheeky, I would make a general suggestion that a number of
folks consider going to the newcomers' bof on Sunday before coming to the
working group later in the week...

Seriously: I think a good case can be made that one big reason why the
internet works, or at least worked, was because of the IETF process. I am
vitally interested in a cal/sched standard, but it's very disconcerting to
see this perhaps viewed as vendor-standard-arbitration rather than a
working group oriented at developing a consensus-based engineering
standard. And PLEASE remember: good standards frequently TAKE TIME. "Sides"
don't win arguments. Try stripping the 'you', etc. off arguments and list
out the technical issues in the greatest specificity you can. It will save
flamage and probably get a better standard faster.

OK, I will try to shut off the holier-than-thou stuff now...back to lurking
8-).
