I'm sorry but without further evidence I'll have to disagree with your
assessment. We're talking about a simple stupid string search-and-
replace operation here, not some high-level unpacking and semantic
decoding of complex encoded data. As a loose argument, it seems to me
that one line of Perl code can replace BEGIN/END with recursive MIME
subobjects. Translated into C, I don't see how your hope that it will
be smaller than 52k cannot be satisfied easily. Compared to 2MB I
think vendors including Microsoft would have a better luck removing
excess fat elsewhere from their applications.
I do appreciate Microsoft's commitment to building small and compact
software products, though. (:
