Data Segment Attributes

Hello -

  I'm currently involved with an 856 (Ship Notice/Manifest) document and   
have a question regarding Data Segment attributes. For example, for the   
Date and Time (DTM) reference, there are 7 attributes - the first being   
the date and time qualifier, which is mandatory (specified with an "M").   
The second and third elements are the actual date and time and their   
attributes are designated as "X."  Sorry if this is a simple question,   
but what does "X" mean?? I've got all other attributes, but have yet to   
find out what "X" means. Any help would be appreciated. Also, my company
