"X" means that there are conditions associated with this
data element. The example you have quoted of DTM segment
has it's first qualifier element as M-andatory and 2nd
element is marked "X". If you look further down in DTM segment,
(I am assuming you have the printed manual from DISA) you
will find R020306 condition.
Just to confuse you a bit, if you happen to look into the
actual directory of standard provided on disk, you may find
a "C" instead of "X". They both mean the same thing. Don't
be surprised if you see a "C" in some printed documents, which
would again mean the same thing for X12 BUT for EDIFACT case
it would mean what type "O" means in X12.
