CommerceNet Completes Second Round of Secure EDI Interoperability Testing
Five new products with encryption, digital signatures, integrity, and signed
receipts are now available.
PALO ALTO, CA, August 11, 1998 -- CommerceNet, the premier industry
association for Internet commerce, today announced that six leading EDI
vendors-Compaq's Tandem Division, Cyclone Software, Harbinger, Netscape, SAA
Consultants, and Sterling Commerce-have completed Secure EDI over the
Internet interoperability testing. The development of new products which
allow the secure, protected exchange of EDI business documents over the
Internet is critical to making the Internet more business friendly.
CommerceNet was instrumental in sponsoring the first successful
interoperability test for the secure exchange of EDI information over the
Internet thirteen months ago. The testing verifies that users can purchase
off-the-shelf interoperable software that supports encryption, digital
signatures, integrity, and signed receipts.
The following products have passed CommerceNet's Secure EDI over the
Internet Interoperability testing based on CommerceNet's testing document
which may obtained by contacting Rik Drummond <drummond@xxxxxxxxxxxx>.

The goal of this annual testing program is to accelerate the development of
interoperable Secure Internet-enabled EDI products. The
CommerceNet-sponsored interoperability testing is based on the work of the
EDIINT Working Group of the IETF. This working group has produced
recommendations on how to implement secure EDI exchanges over the Internet
using either PGP/MIME or S/MIME; the recommendations have been submitted for
consideration as Proposed Internet Standards.
CommerceNet is soliciting additional participation in its annual Secure EDI
Interoperability testing program. If you are interested, please contact Rik
Drummond <drummond@xxxxxxxxxxxx>.
