GE: ** EDIINT - Read Me EDI Ve

Rik,

I represent GE Information Services as well as Actra Business Systems, GE and
Netscape's new joint venture for developing Internet electronic commerce
software products.

We plan to develop and test S/MIME.

We do not plan to develop a PGP capability.

Furthermore, we predict that users who are exchanging time-critical,
mission-critical business documents will quickly ask for something better than
SMTP. So, as I said on April 27, we plan to work with the rest of our industry
to develop an open standard SSL capability, too.

But, let's stay focused for now on getting an SMTP S/MIME solution, or PGP for
some vendors, out the door.

This fall, the "S/MIME" vendors and the "PGP" vendors can use the same
CommerceNet test plan. (Unless a lot of vendors support both options though,
it doesn't make sense to have two options in the first place.)

As a volunteer writer/editor of the CommerceNet interoperability test plan, I
am interested in seeing a list of the "PGP" vendors and the "both" vendors.

Please publish your voting results soon
