The main argument against X12 and EDIFACT security implementations are 
just that they are syntax-specific.


TheEDIFACT specification is being adopted in several European countries 
for healthcare applications.

The editors tell me that EDIFACT confidentiality proposals for version 4 
do allow encryption of message headers/interchange headers which \are 
then carried in an outer envelope.
