I object to the use of the term "WEB". Though WWW/EDI would be useful, I
don't think that's what I would call AS#2. (For it to be part of the
"web", it should use and be referenced by hypertext links, and should be
usable with a WWW browser. Using an HTTP server as a low-level transfer
protocol, doesn't make an application part of the web.)
The correct term is real time "client-server" or "server-server" Internet
EDI. Also, this isn't "edit", it's messaging.
Heard the term, Web-Phone TM? It has nothing to do with the web and
doesn't use HTTP.
