In our organisation, we have been providing EDI services over our VAN.
We are now trying to offer the service over Internet as well. The application
under consideration generates an EDIFACT message at the user site.
This message is to be transparently transmitted ( with MIME enveloping)
to the Internet by the user end application.

At the recieving end, the EDIFACT messages are to be automatically downloaded
for translation and further forwarding to the in-house application. Similarly
this automation should include transmission of outbound messages to the
user from the host application in defined standard formats.

At the user end the environment is Windows/DOS while at the host end, the
front-end processing at the could be DOS/Windows/Unix.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to how this can be achieved with the
help of public-domain software?
