AD position on a new EDI protocol
The Applications ADs are of the opinion that it's very dangerous
for the EDIINT group to attempt to design a new protocol.
This group does not, AFAIK, have protocol design experience that
is commensurate to the task at hand, and it has not been proven
to my satisfaction that a new protocol is required.
At the very least, a point-by-point argument why it's impossible to
satisfy a given set of requirements by using or profiling an existing
protocol MUST be available as an I-D before a charter revision is
granted.
Note that the requirements, as they exist now, form an "outer" set:
not all requirements will be required in all scenarios, even though
I have no doubt that there are scenarios that will require all of
them in one scenario or another.
The alternative of using different protocols in different scenarios
MUST be considered.
So at the moment, designing a new EDI protocol remains outside the
scope of the EDIINT working group.
