This has been done in the Network Fax Board area. WildCard Technologies
[who took over the old Intel SatisFAXtion board line] introducted a concept
called "Local Fax" that allowed you to take a existing fax machine and plug
it into the back of a high preformance fax board and once the board
intercepted the G3 datastream the board took over and actually sent the fax
..but added all the neat features of fax boards like queuing, broadcast,
time delay. There was a cable with a mini-DIN and a RJ-11 going to the fax
machine.
