Well the idea with IDLEPLUS is that the mailboxes/folders which are monitored 
are controlled via server site settings. 

E.g. if nothing is available it is controlled via the subscription status. But 
as soon as METADATA capability is available a more sophisticated and 
finegrained control is possible. This control may be beyond plain on/off but 
also take things like priorities(*) into account.

The nice thing about IDLEPLUS is that the set of mailboxes which are monitored 
is stored on the server not on the client and there is no need to transfer 
this information repeatedly over the uplink. 

In a lot of scenarios (e.g. ADSL and especially G3/G4 networks like UMTS) but 
also satelite links uplink latency and bandwidth are the most limiting 
factors not download bandwidth.

Depending on the kind of usage scenario you are considering the list of 
mailboxes to be monitored can become really large. (Think about usages beyond 
plain personal mail storage).
