Really?  I think a cert for xmpp:hartmans@xxxxxxxxxxx issued by
ca.mit.edu (I forget what subject name that CA actually uses) would be
a perfectly fine cert for me to have.

I think it would be more useful than
xmpp://mit.edu/hartmans@xxxxxxxxxxxx  Note that as far as 3280 and the
URI specs are concerned, the first form (xmpp:hartmans@xxxxxxxxxxx)
has no host name.

Whoops, you're clearly right. I had forgotten that we had some mailto-like URLs.
