Certificate Retrieval from LDAP/CA

Hi,

In general, after a user submits a certificate request, is it better to
retrieve issued certificates from LDAP server? or from CA server? and why? 

Also, is PKIX capable of retrieving certificates from LDAP and CA servers or
CAs only?
