If the basis of that desire is religious bias, which is what phrases
like "behind the times" suggests, then I see no merit in this.
On the other hand, if there are technical benefits, that's different.
Certainly I'm no fan of BER (don't know DER as well). But if the best
argument against this set of standards is that they are old fashioned,
that's not an argument with merit. Growing opinion or not -- that
doesn't matter.
