Out Of Scope (WAS: Thin PKI won - You lost)
Folks,
This is an extremely busy working group. We currently have twenty
Internet-Drafts. To complete some of these documents, we need a mailing
list where people are making positive contributions to the process.
Unfortunately, a large percentage of the bandwidth has been consumed of
late by threads that are way out of scope. There are so many off-topic
posts that the serious posts tend to go to unnoticed.
This is the mailing list for the "Public Key Infrastructure Using X.509"
working group, not the SPKI/XML Certificate/etc.. working group. Our
charter is "developing Internet standards needed to support an X.509-based
PKI". (For those that have not read it, you will find this document at
http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/pkix-charter.html).
A submission to this list is appropriate if
#1 the message contains a constructive comment or a question regarding one
of our twenty I-Ds! (And, no, "start over with XML" is not a constructive
comment.)
#2 the message discusses possible new standardization efforts "needed to
support an X.509-based PKI".
If the message does not satisfy #1 or #2 it is *OUT OF SCOPE*. If you have
something to say about topics that are not within the working group's
scope, you should take them to another list. If you wish to have a debate,
send personal email. The rest of the group does not need to watch; it is
inconsiderate to consume our bandwidth with your time on the soap box.
If a message appears on the list, and you feel it is out of scope, please
either (a) ignore the posting, or (b) respond directly. Let's get the list
moving again, so we can complete some of our current work items.
Thank You,
Tim "The Grinch" Polk
