[IETF-PKIX] 7/10 draft update
For the information of PKIX and SMIME WG members, we have just posted the
following draft to the I-D directories: Certificate Request Syntax
<draft-ietf-smime-crs-00.txt>. This draft represents the latest
progression of the work on PKCS#7/#10-based adaptation of PKIX-CMP, in
accordance with agreements reached at the Munich PKIX meeting.
Following the recent establishment of the SMIME WG, various people have
suggested that this work might now be better carried out in that new group,
i.e., the group responsible for the IETF standardization of PKCS#7. While
such a move has not yet been endorsed by the Security Area Director, this
appears to the authors to be the most appropriate WG due to the use of
PKCS#7 in the CRS draft. Accordingly, the I-D has, with the agreement of
the SMIME WG Chair, been identified as a SMIME WG draft.
We do wish to point out however that the draft could be well served by
either the PKIX or SMIME WGs. The ultimate forum for the draft is far less
important than in carrying forward on the agreements reached at the Munich
PKIX WG meeting.
