Welcome to the Web site for the ietf-rtpsec mailing list. Numerous proposals are currently circulating for securing the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP, RFC3550), a common protocol used in VoIP applications. Some provide key exchange mechanisms for the existing Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (sRTP, RFC3711), others provide a new security layer below RTP with its own keying and transport. Given the wide variety of proposals, there is a need to encourage consolidation and consensus surrounding the baseline requirements, desired capabilities, and so forth. Since this effort touches on many IETF working groups, and many different constituencies, it will be discussed on this fresh mailing list. Eventually this effort may lead to an IETF BoF.
