I would strongly prefer a textual protocol, and I agree that it should
have a restrictive syntax. (I am anxious to not repeat my experiences
implementing and writing tests for DIGEST-MD5 ;). I think this is what
the "Silly syntax variations" item in Chris's list is addressing too.
