I'm glad someone else keyed in the NYT article. Saves me the
trouble ... and I don't have to ask for reprint permission,
because someone else violated the copyright :-)
Note that ECMA has already declined Unicode, for (IMHO) valid
reasons, except for the political ones. (They state quite un-
ashamedly that it isn't acceptable because it was _developed_
by ISO!)
There are some other problems with the article; it seems to
have the accuracy of the usual trade-press story. (I.e. the
reporter believed everything the Unicode people told him.)
If you have any doubts about the accuracy of the article,
consider that 10111001 is *not* 'Y' ...
