When I said that RFC-XXXX and possible 8-bit SMTP extensions had
"nothing to do" with each other, I was overstating the case.  Obviously
the RFC-XXXX specification should be such that it will work well with
8-bit SMTP if it is every agreed upon.  What I *meant* to say was that
RFC-XXXX does not require, prohibit, or otherwise take a position on the
8 bit issue.  It is intended to help form a consensus on the 7 bit
encodings that will be necessary whether or not we extend SMTP to 8 bits.

Please pardon any misunderstanding this may have caused.  I've been
writing and talking a LOT on this subject lately, even though it isn't
really what my employers are paying me for, and I seem to have slipped
into a pattern of careless wording in the last few days, which I will
try to slip back out of.  -- Nathaniel
