Note to the community:

If you did not read Mark's note in detail (and his previous one) then I urge
you to go back and do your homework.  Please.  Together, they represent the most
detailed and complete characterization of the current situation that I
have seen.  

Suspend your sense of aesthetics.  Suspend your sense of religion.
Suspend your personal self-interest (as in, what is the easiest change
for YOU.)  Just consider the the end-to-end Internet EMail operational
structure.  

None of us is arguing that 8-in-7 is elegant.  None of us "likes" it.
Our assessment of the operational complexity of Internet EMail, however,
compels us down a path which requires the smallest systems and smallest
operational change.

Sigh.
