question about the new port
I heard it claimed on this list that we cannot define or use a new TCP port
without adding it to the DNS.
Is this true?
If so, then DNS is badly broken, and I recommend that we immediately flush DNS
in favor of host tables.
But seriously [after all, I own a few MX-only machines which would lose their
e-mail connectivity if DNS went away], isn't it the case that the only issue
wrt DNS is the WKS records, which have been more or less retired?
I don't see any DNS reason that in any way hampers the use of a different port
for SMTP alternates.
