Any solution which does not use UTF-8 will give us more compatibility
problems in the future than UTF-8 will brings us today. In 10 years
when everyone is using Unicode/UTF-8 and ASCII and Latin-1 are dead
and gone, having Newsgroups encoded in UTF-5 or whatever will be a
pain in the you-know-where.
