Distribution is used extensively in some places for controlling feed leaks
and as a magic cookie to cut down on incoming spam. This has proven
fairly effective.

Approved has a lot of problems even outside of the security problem, such
as the fact that it's currently impossible to tell whether the article has
been approved for every moderated newsgroup listed or only one of them.
I keep meaning to try to find time to write this up, and keep having my
time disappear with other projects. *sigh*
