IIRC, the latest BIND is adding support for this too. We've been using a
name server written in Perl to handle some subdomains here for some time
so that we can do tricks like that (although mostly we just use it for
load balancing).

Anyway, I do remember discussing this before, and I may have even been
taking the opposite side, which indicates to me that I don't have a firm
opinion one way or the other. *wry grin*
