I concur. In particular, message IDs longer than the limits of the
current dbz variants *will* cause problems for many sites. This issue
will not go away quickly, given how long old software persists; it's a
real and serious interoperability problem that is not fixable by wishing
it away.
If there was a *good reason* for a more generous limit, then it would make
sense to encourage the transition to a new way of doing things. However,
250 seems plenty; I don't see the gain from being wishy-washy about it.
