I just wanted to mention NHNS here, which is a nice (and working)
solution that only lacks hierarchy maintainers' participation.

NAS may be nice, but NHNS (a RIPE nnwg project) actually works without
inventing new protocols. Since it's based on DNS it will be implicitly
secure if you use DNSSEC.
