What makes you think that? There will always be an audience for USENET,
as there will always be an audience for WEB-based discussion. The
difference, though, is that you're gonna find a higher level of
intelligence on USENET, as alone installation of software /for/ USENET
is gonna be a barrier. The WEB-based froups will always be there, but I
sincerely think, that they aren't gonna reach anywhere NEAR the level of
succes, that USENET has. Web-based discussion forums will typically
target a much smaller audience, than that of USENET and in addition to
that, they don't have the widespread audience, that USENET entertains.
USENET has been predicted to die before, but never has. Sure, it will
renew itself, but it will happen slowly. I don't think that it is ever
gonna have the same appearance as www, but it will most likely be more
graphically oriented, as bandwidth is expanded. So NO, your poin doesn't
stand.
