Yes, but even directory and syncing ervices rely on some master site such
as ISC, which in turn will have gotten its data from
newgroup/rmgroup/checkgroups, and maybe now mvgroups.
BTW, what does the ISC active file show after a rmgroup? Does it show the
group marked as 'x' for a while. And does it ever show aliases?
