This is precisely what I don't agree with. I think the damage, such as it
is, is equivalent in news and mail, or if anything more severe in mail.

People on Usenet complain more, but I've seen far more in the way of real
interoperability problems with mail than with Usenet.

In both places, given the complexity of the problem that it's trying to
solving and the absolutely abominable quality of some of the MIME
implementations (which isn't the fault of the specification), it still
works surprisingly well.
