I'm sorry for the confusion, זרו is _not_ a valid utf-8 string after all.
Both Netscape 4.x and a programm I have that handles UTF-8 in the clipboard will
display זרו as a chinese character, and not as invalid, but I hadn't thought to
check back if the encoding for that chinese character really was זרו.
It isn't. It's ז¸¥.
Netscape 6.1 does display זרו as question marks when in UTF-8 mode.
Also Netscape 6.1 might be the only client software that will correctly handle
the newsgroup names in UTF-8 without user manipulation, so I'd love to have the
name of a news server with open access that carries it to test.
