I have three items on my list:
1. Which headers will allow MIME-style parameters.
Recent discussions seem to indicate that my solution 4c, which removes
the possibility of such parameters within From, Reply-To, Mail-Copies-To
and Complaints-To, is acceptable to most people. That is what I will now
do unless I hear loud screams to the contrary.
2. Reply-To <>
The <> option for indicating that replies by email were not wanted
was incoinsistent with the syntax, so something HAD to be changed.
Possibilities are
A. Change the syntax to
Reply-To-content = address-list / [display-name] [CFWS] "<>" [CFWS]
(which would be an entension w.r.t. RFC 2822)
B. Recommend the use of group syntax, as in
Reply-To: nobidy: ;
C. Remove all menmtion of the matter (since people are already adept at
generating unreplyable addresses, and we shoujld not care so long as
they use '.invalid').
Whilst several people were reluctant to see '<>' removed, only one of
them actually said he would live with the revised syntax (which is what
matters). Two, or maybe three were happy to omit the matter entirely.
Please can we have more views on this? It has to be decided, but it does
not seem like an issue worthy of the full Straw Poll procedure.
3. Syntax of UTF-8
There is some off-list discussion with Clive Feather and Stan Barber
to ensure that Usefor and the NNTP draft tell the same story. I don't
expect this to result in any significant change. Note that there is
a new UTF-8 draft out (draft-yergeau-rfc2279bis-00.txt) to clarify the
previous RFC and to bring it into line with current Unicode thinking.
It turns out we had already anticipated all their clarifications, so no
further action is needed on our part.
Next I shall put out the latest section_3 (just waiting for Landfield
to accept my ftp), and then, when the above issues are incorporated, I
shall be ready for a further official draft.
And then I think we shall be ready to talk about Last Call.
