There's another problem with your interpretation.
There is nothing that fits the referent "the mailbox of John
Stanley". (At least, that would be my guess. In my case, which of
the following is "the mailbox of Seth Breidbart": (1) sethb@panix.com;
(2) my work email account; (3) the small locked box in the lobby of my
apartment building; (4) the slightly larger box in the local Post
Office that I pay rent on?) Since _the_ implies a singular item, an
entity cannot be anything that does not map to a unique mailbox.
