Only in the case of overlapping names. Press the tab key or whatever
once or twice until the one you want pops up, or pick the one you want
in the list or menu. It's just like picking a mail recipient from a
directory. It's really quite easy and convenient.
The common case, obviously, is to post to the newsgroups to which one is
already subscribed. Frequent posting to a large selection of newsgroups
one does not read is far from the type of behavior the Usenet community
has ever encouraged.
[These types of UI shortcuts are going to be desirable with any I18N
scheme; even if one is lucky enough to have an AltGr or Compose key,
keyboards still have a strong tendency to favor Roman scripts and ASCII
in particular.]

Sure, that would be one nice way to set defaults, though personally I'd
prefer to make the first matches be the groups where I'm subscribed.
This, obviously, does not really differ from the current need to somehoe
enter an entire newsgroup specification; if I put "vms" in the
Newsgroups: header, the server won't know enough to route the article to
comp.os.vms for me.
