I use mailx, which does not know what MIME is. Since I edit the mail,
including the headers, in Emacs, I can add any header I like (well
almost). I only occassionally include MIME-headers, as I have never
perceived that they add any useful information. Some friends have
brain-dead mail-readers which say "cannot be displayed because it
contains an unknown charset", so sometimes I add them manually. But
note that the headers still do not add anything really interesting.
If these mailers would display the message in the default charset,
they would get it right anyway.

The one day, I switch to send out my mails in UTF-8, I may have to
reconsider.
