Can we please refrain from ad-hominem attacks -- this ought
to be a discussion among professionals *about* Usenet, not a
flame-fest *in the worst style of* Usenet.

One could say "as they stand" (full stop), or "modulo a few
caveats" as the case might be, but "as they stand, modulo a
few caveats" is as nonsensical as "this statement is false"
is, for the same reason: it's logically inconsistent.
