I believe JBM's point is not that IMAP is a minor consideration, but that
IMAP's problems with 8-bit data are a minor consideration, because such
data is widespread enough on Usenet already that if IMAP is going to play
in the news world at all, it's going to have to learn how to handle 8-bit
data, and soon, no matter what we do. No matter how draconian we get
about encodings etc., IMAP *will* be confronted with such data... so there
is no point in us getting draconian to try to save IMAP from this trauma.
