The explanation is simple. My sendmail "corrected" it before sending it
out :-( .
The good news is that the version posted to misc.test arrived with the

Anyway, I am sending this by telnet direct to port 25 at landfield, so
we shall see whether Kent's mail expander "improves" it or not.
Not that all this proves very much - just an experiment, you understand.
