Looking at two articles. Neither has a References header.
The one whose Subject does not begin with "Re: " shows up as "[1]-" in
the mini-thread view at the upper right. The one whose Subject begins
with "Re: " shows up as "-[1]-" in the mini-thread view. (The "-" to
the right connect with another article.)
